Car polishes & polishing pads: For a perfect paint surface
A flawless paint finish is the pride and joy of every car owner. Over time, however, the paint surface is exposed to various influences that lead to small scratches, holograms and a dull appearance. Car polishes and polishing pads are the key products for restoring the paintwork to as-new condition, protecting it and ensuring an impressive deep shine. The right combination of polish and pad is crucial for optimum results.
The importance of the right polish
Polishes contain fine abrasive particles that remove a thin layer of the top coat of paint during application to remove imperfections. The abrasiveness, i.e. the grinding effect, varies depending on the type of polish.
- Abrasive polishes (heavy cut): These polishes have a high abrasive effect and are ideal for removing deep scratches, heavy weathering and paint defects. They are often used on older or heavily used paintwork. Application requires experience, as damage can occur if used incorrectly.
- Medium polishes (medium cut): They are the all-rounder among polishes. They remove medium scratches, holograms and light to medium weathering. These polishes offer a good balance between abrasive effect and gloss finish.
- Fine polishes (Fine Cut): Fine polishes are excellent for removing light signs of wear, fine scratches, car wash scratches and holograms. Their main purpose is to prepare a flawless, high-gloss surface.
- High-gloss polishes (Finish Cut): These polishes are designed for the final work step. They contain extremely fine abrasive particles that create a mirror-like finish and remove the smallest flaws and sanding marks from previous polishing processes.
Polishing pads: The link between machine and paint
Choosing the right polishing pad is just as important as the polish itself. The pad determines how the polish works on the surface.
- Foam pads: These pads are the most commonly used. They are available in different degrees of hardness and structures, which are optimally matched to the respective polish.
- Hard pads (red, blue): These pads are ideal for the application of abrasive polishes. They transfer the force of the polishing machine directly to the paintwork and ensure maximum sanding effect.
- Medium pads (yellow, orange): These pads are well suited for medium-hard polishes. They combine a moderate sanding effect with a good gloss result.
- Soft pads (black, white): These pads are used for fine and high-gloss polishes. Their soft structure ensures a perfect finish without holograms.
- Lambskin pads: Lambskin pads are known for their aggressive sanding action and are often used in combination with strong abrasive polishes to quickly remove deep scratches and severe paint defects. They require a little more experience to use.
- Microfiber pads: These pads offer very good sanding performance and can be used for both coarse and finer polishes. They generate less heat than foam pads and are particularly efficient at removing scratches.
The benefits of paint polishing
Regular paint polishing is more than just cosmetic. It is an essential part of vehicle care that significantly increases the value and longevity of the vehicle.
- Value retention: A shiny, well-maintained paintwork significantly increases the resale value of your vehicle.
- Protection against environmental influences: Removing old layers of paint also removes aggressive deposits and contaminants that could damage the paintwork in the long term.
- Aesthetics: A deep-gloss paint finish without scratches or holograms gives the vehicle a flawless and impressive appearance.
- Preparation for sealing: A perfectly polished paintwork is the ideal basis for subsequent paint sealing (wax, ceramic sealing, etc.). The sealant can bond better with the smooth surface and thus offers longer-lasting protection.
